On Thursday 24 October, researchers at the School of the Arts gave presentations on their new publications at a social event convened by Professor Richard Canning for English and Creative Writing undergraduates.

Demonstrating how research underpins and positively reinforces the student experience, Dr Sonya Andermahr introduced her new collection edited with Dr Silvia Pellicer-Ortin (The University of Zaragoza), ‘Trauma Narratives and Herstory’ (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). Dr Gerri Kimber and Professor Janet Wilson discussed the commissioning process underpinning their latest exploration of the works of Katherine Mansfield with co-editor, Delia da Sousa Correa, ‘Katherine Mansfield and the (Post) Colonial’ (Edinburgh University Press, 2013).

Dr David Simmons (Senior Lecturer in Film and Screen Studies) spoke about his latest edited collection, ‘New Critical Essays on H.P. Lovecraft (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013) and Alan Smith gave a talk on his prison teaching experiences which underlie his memoir, ‘Her Majesty’s Philosophers’ (Waterside Press, 2013).
Attended by about thirty undergraduates, the social event was followed by a stimulating and engaging research seminar by Professor Isabella van Elferen (The University of Kingston) on ‘Gothic Music: The Sounds of the Uncanny’. We would like to thank everyone who participated in these events.
